"We live in a time where common sense is in short supply."

Interview marking 10 years of Half Double

Flemming Hedegaard, Innovation Director at Grundfos, was part of the very first Half Double workshops. In this interview, he reflects on the energy of the early days, the value of common sense in project management, and the tools he still uses today - ten years later.

How did you get involved in developing the Half Double methodology?

I was invited by Christina Sejr Pedersen to take part in the very first workshops and, in that way, helped shape the Half Double concept.

You were part of the Half Double journey from the beginning - what stands out in your memory from that time?

There was an incredible energy among the participants and a shared understanding that it was important to improve the success rate of projects.

It was inspiring to discuss project management with people from completely different sectors - both public and private.

What made the idea of developing a new project model attractive and exciting for you?

The chance to create a model that was ultra-simple and focused on common sense rather than loads of templates and processes.

What have you taken with you from Half Double that you still use today?

I still use the overall concept of Impact-Flow-Leadership to ensure that project managers maintain a 360-degree focus on their projects.
In terms of specific tools, I particularly use Visual Planning and the Pulse Check.

Can you recall a moment when you thought: "This actually works"?

I've never had any doubt about that.
We live in a time where common sense is in short supply - and Half Double is a step in the right direction.

In your view, what has Half Double done differently - and better - than other methods?

I think Half Double has done a better job than most in highlighting that project management is, above all, about leading people.

If you could wish anything for the future of Half Double, what would it be?

A long and happy life 😁
