Why a hybrid approach is gaining importance in Denmark

Hybrid project management - a mix of traditional and agile methods - is becoming increasingly popular for managing complex and dynamic project environments. But how are these methods being used in Denmark and what is preventing companies from realizing their full potential?

We have long been studying with the project professionals using hybrid methodologies, with the aim of seeing the obstacles in the future. Here you can find a guide in the hoogtepunten and what you need to know about hybrid project management.

Hybrid approaches are on the rise

The results show that hybrid project management is a preferred choice for many:

  • 78% of respondents regularly use hybrid methods in their projects.
  • Despite this, only 17% have more than a decade of experience with hybrid practices, highlighting that this is still a maturing approach.

When it comes to value creation, hybrid approaches are already making a difference:

  • 70% report improved efficiency within teams.
  • 88% state that hybrid methods have improved the agility of their organization.
  • 66% agree that hybrid models have increased the success rate of projects.

The Challenge: A Training Gap

However, the survey also revealed a major obstacle: insufficient training.

  • 85% of respondents said that few or none of their team members have received formal training in hybrid project management.
  • 86% believe that more training is needed to fully realize the benefits of hybrid methods.

This lack of training explains why "lack of knowledge" is the biggest barrier to implementation, followed closely by "resistance to change". Without adequate training, teams find it difficult to unlock the potential of hybrid.

Lack of organizational guidance

Another eye-opening finding is that 40% of companies do not have a defined project management approach.

Those that do have one have opted for a hybrid approach:

  • 35% of companies have opted for a hybrid approach.
  • Traditional methods account for only 14%, with agile methods trailing behind at 8%.

This shows that hybrid models offer the right balance for today's projects - flexibility for complex requirements and structure for clarity. However, the lack of a defined methodology in many organizations underscores the need for strategic alignment to ensure consistency and alignment.

How AI is shaping the future

The integration of AI into project management is on the rise, with 74% of respondents using or considering AI to adapt project workflows.

AI offers exciting opportunities, such as optimizing project planning, predicting risks and automating repetitive tasks. However, technology alone is not the answer. Human insight - through leadership, creativity and decision-making - remains the cornerstone of successful projects.

This is why Half Double's methodology emphasizes the human side of project management. It combines innovative approaches with a focus on leadership and impact, ensuring that technology supports, rather than replaces, the people who drive projects forward.

Moving Forward with Half Double

To close the gaps identified in this survey, action is needed at three levels:

  1. Individual level: train project teams in hybrid methodologies to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.
  2. Organizational level: implement a tailored hybrid methodology to create consistency and drive alignment between projects.
  3. Leadership level: engage leaders to champion hybrid practices, allocate resources and foster a culture of adaptability.

At Half Double Institute, we have developed a sophisticated hybrid methodology that combines agility, flow efficiency and leadership engagement to deliver real impact in less time. Our approach provides a structured yet flexible framework that empowers organizations to succeed in today's project environments.
