We recently conducted a survey to uncover how project professionals are adopting hybrid methods, the benefits they’re seeing, and the barriers they’re facing. Here’s a dive into the highlights and what they mean for the future of hybrid project management.
The Challenge: A Training Gap
However, the survey also revealed a major obstacle: insufficient training.
- 85% of respondents said few or none of their team members have received formal training in hybrid project management.
- 86% feel that more education is needed to fully capitalize on the benefits of hybrid methods.
This lack of training explains why “lack of knowledge” is the most significant barrier to implementation, closely followed by “resistance to change.” Without adequate education, teams struggle to unlock hybrid’s potential.
Lack of organisational guidance
Another eye-opening finding is that 40% of organizations lack a defined project management approach.
For those that do:
- 35% have chosen hybrid approaches.
- Traditional methods make up only 14%, and agile trails behind at 8%.
This demonstrates that hybrid models are striking the right balance for today’s projects—offering flexibility for complex demands and structure for clarity. Yet the lack of a defined methodology in many organizations underscores the need for strategic direction to ensure consistency and alignment.
How AI is Shaping the Future
The integration of AI into project management is growing, with 74% of respondents either using or considering AI to tailor project workflows.
AI offers exciting possibilities, such as optimizing project planning, predicting risks, and automating repetitive tasks. However, technology alone isn’t the answer. Human insight—through leadership, creativity, and decision-making—remains the cornerstone of successful projects.
That’s why the Half Double methodology emphasizes the human side of project management. It combines innovative approaches with a focus on leadership and impact, ensuring that technology supports, rather than replaces, the people driving projects forward.
Moving Forward with Half Double
To close the gaps highlighted in this survey, action is needed on three levels:
- Individual Level: Upskill project teams with training in hybrid methods to ensure they have the tools needed to succeed.
- Organizational Level: Implement a tailored hybrid methodology to create consistency and drive alignment across projects.
- Leadership Level: Engage leaders to champion hybrid practices, allocate resources, and foster a culture of adaptability.
At the Half Double Institute, we’ve developed a refined hybrid methodology that combines agility, flow efficiency, and leadership involvement to deliver real impact in less time. Our approach provides a structured yet flexible framework, equipping organizations to thrive in today’s project environments.
Join the Hybrid Movement
The future of project management is hybrid, but it requires commitment at every level to unlock its full potential. Whether you’re looking to upskill your team, refine your methodology, or engage your leadership in cultural change, we’re here to help.
